There is a terrible problem in the New Forest with pony deaths on the roads. People drive too fast, don’t drive within their stopping distances and visual fields and generally don’t take the care they need to. So they hit the ponies, the donkeys, the cows, the pigs and all the other forest creatures. Today, here in the real world, a pony was decapitated by a driver.
A fellow horse lover from the forest, Sally Marsh, wrote a very moving poem about it. It touched my heart so I turned the poem into a song and quickly made a video to illustrate it. It is my hope that this will reach people and make them drive a bit more slowly and carefully in this magical wonderland of a forest that we are so lucky to call home.
